Dr.Jart+: Korean Dermasks for dry skin

I got these Korean masks for dry skin from a friend. She recommended them to me, so I tried them immediately. But first, I wanted to know a bit more about the brand.

Who’s behind Dr.Jart+?

The brand was created in South Korea around 2004, and now is one of the best Korean mask brand.

All started in 2001 in South Korea when a dermatologist, Dr Sung Jae Jung, developed a skin care line for his patients. He wanted to offer them the best products for keeping their skin in perfect condition between treatments.

A few years later, in 2005, Dr. Jart+ was launched. The ﬁrst Dr. Jart+ BB Cream was such a success that it opened the door to the rest of the world.

My relationship with the sheet masks

I love the feeling of being at home, lying on the sofa, with my legs a bit up, having a face mask while reading a book. Sometimes I forget the mask and it becomes completely dry!

I have used a lot of masks over the past few years and no mask fits me at all. There are three scenarios (or all at the same time):

A/ too small nose, so the ending of my nose is not covered or
B/ too small hole for the eyes, so I have to open the mask manually or
C/ too thin and long upper lip, so when the mask dries over the upper lip becomes to loose.

Sometimes they come so soaked that I use the rest of the essence included inside the envelope for some other parts such as the neck, chest, arms and even legs! Savings mode activated.

Dr.Jart+ Dermasks in particular

I have tested these two from Dr. Jart+. And from them I have loved:

Their packaging: very nice and resistant. The envelope is paperish, with glossy final arts prints, and nice baby colours.
They have the instructions in English, and it is clearly explained how to use it and what is inside. Very helpeful.
The masks themselves are made with thin cellulose and separated with a thick film to easy separate and apply them.
They are suitable for all skin types.
No artificial fragrance included.

What are the differences between them?

Dr.Jart+ Dermask Water Jet Vital Hydra Solution – Blue

3. Scent: It is very floral and it has something that reminds me of when I was a kid playing with my dolls… sweet memories.

It is made with an ultra-low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, for better activation of moisture and for better improvement of absorption. This one had a lot of essence.

Dr.Jart+ Dermask Soothing Hydra Solution – Green

@belarightnow Action: Soothes dry skin. Deep hydration.

Formula: With aloe vera, phytoncide and aquaxyl.

Scent: It is with rosemary but it has something else that reminds me of some kind of pharmacy drug…. but in general it is like staying in the countryside.

The mask provides instant cooling, moisturising, and repairing dry skin. This one did not have extra essence.

So, if I had to choose one, seriously I couldn’t… I think both are good enough. My only concern is that maybe they don’t work completely well for ultra dry skin. But in general, are pretty good.

SK-II PITERA FACIAL TREATMENT ESSENCE

Pitera is the one and only mist. For me, this is the most incredible skincare I have ever had. Their claim is #changeyourdestiny and it really does!

I read a lot before buying SK-II Pittera Facial Treatment Essence and one of the things I was afraid of was its weird or strong scent. When I bought it, I was ready to get my feet wet. I was very brave and so once I opened it I was very prepared and very conscious that maybe it could displease me a lot…

But I found a unique scent not bad, not super good, only the scent of the active formula.

This is a perfect product to re-boost the skin. From the same moment I apply it, it is easy to see how radiant is the skin. Suddenly, it becomes lighter, luminous, uniform… tremendously beautiful.It is true that at the beginning this is a temporary feeling but after several months, the skin maintains this radiant beauty.

It is important to note that in 35 years its formula has essentially never changed: “more than 90% PITERA, a natural bio-ingredient containing vitamins, amino acids, and minerals”.

How does it work?

Also, you can choose an essence and combine with another active in your serum or cream. But not more than two types of main ingredients to obtain what we really want. This way, we avoid overburdening the skin.

For example, essence for moisturizing and hydrating the skin, and a cream for whitening or anti-wrinkles or firming, etc. If you use too many actives at the same time, you will never see a real change in your skin.
Try to combine two effects in the morning and other two effects at night.

Thanks to the vitamins, amino acids, and minerals included in Facial Treatment Essence they act gently, exfoliating the skin surface and renewing the cell cycle.

One more thing to add. This is a powerful skincare that helps against dullness and external aggressions but, remember that the best anti-spot friend is a sun cream. With a good and high sun protection, your skin will always look like porcelain and is prevented from the early aging. Use it along the year, no matter whether you are on the beach, in the mountains or in the office! Why I prefer vitamin C in ampoules

Spending the weekend in a friend’s countryside home, the girls were putting our stuff in the bathroom (picture this!). As usual, I was very interested in every little pot of cream I saw. Suddenly, I saw a pearly white and fuchsia box: “What’s this? Wow, Vitamin C!” and my friend offered me the box because she had another one at home. I only accepted 2 ampoules to try and now I am writing about my experience with a box I bought online later on.

First of all, what is vitamin C?

Vitamin C applied directly on the skin is a powerful antioxidant. It reduces the effects of skin aging because it can neutralize the harmful free radicals that attack the cells.

Vitamin C has other properties like:

Stimulating the synthesis of collagen and elastic fibers, improving firmness and reducing wrinkles.
Reducing the synthesis of melanin, resulting in lighter skin.
It is also good to prevent cell damage from sunburns.

Vitamin C has a short life span after it makes contact with oxygen. It is for that I recommend you, if you want to get a vitamin C solution, to buy it in ampoules. This way, you can assure yourself that it completely has all its active properties. Much better to open and apply it.

It is possible to find vitamin C included as an ingredient in formulating creams and, recently, I have discovered vitamin C in powder! I got one packet and I will share my thoughts about it. But, I am now telling you in advance that it is very cool.

Repavar Active Vitamin C Ampoules are recommended for use in the day or at night after cleaning and drying the skin. Lightly massaging the product on the face and neck helps it to complete absorption. After this, you can continue with your daily routine and makeup.

Renew your skin with Nature Republic

Good news… one of my favourite peeling gels is not expensive :O

Yes, I bought it in Seoul while I was walking along the bright and crowded streets of this city from South Korea.

I love Seoul because it is very lively and lovely and because it is the beauty capital of the world. Most of the Asian cosmetics trends were born there and, since a few years ago, it has been possible to find some of them in western countries. The power of Korean beauty is conquering the world!

Well, a Nature Republic beautician came to me and explain to me the qualities of the Super Aqua Max Soft Peeling Gel, which is not the latest launch from the brand but nonetheless, I find it very effective. I tried it on the spot and the beautician gave me a new necessity in my life… I loved it.

So, since then, it has been included in my weekly routine. I use it once or twice a week depending on my skin’s necessities. It helps to improve microcirculation, to renew dead cells and to reduce expression lines. Careful, because if you use any scrub or peel more than that, your skin could suffer sensitivity and will be less naturally protected under the sun, one of the most aging and dangerous agents!

I like its scent. It is soft, fresh and clean. When I use it, it reminds me of those days in Seoul.

How to apply Super Aqua Max Soft Peeling Gel:

Bela Right Now It is simple. First, wash your face with your daily cleansing products to eliminate all the impurities that can cause any damage while one applies the gel on the skin. Second, dry your skin completely. Third, apply the peeling gel, while avoiding the eye and mouth contours and leave it on your skin for a while (in my case I leave it for less than a minute). Fourth gently massage the product in circles for one or two minutes. Fifth, and finally, rinse with lukewarm water.

After this weekly deep cleanse, I feel that my skin is tremendously smooth and moisturized. I really do not need anything else after using it but, of course, no one must leave the skin without any cream after using a peel.

If I have enough time I apply a mask, in sheet or in cream form, eye patches or, if I don’t have time, I directly use Vitamin C before my night cream.

Shampoos for different hair types

I have done some research to find the best shampoos for every type of hair. Some friends have recommended some of them to me because I have only one kind of hair… and as I trust their opinions, I have decided to include their must-have everyday hair-care.

She tries to force her hair to keep its shape obtained from 5 hours of brushing, so straight and bright…splendorous but when she stays 5 seconds outdoors, it becomes puffy and frizzy!!!

She confessed to me that, although it is not infallible because we live in a very very humid environment, the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Flawlessly Straight Shampoo helps her hair to remain under control, much better than before.

So the brand says that this new product nourishes dry and damaged hair and smooths, softens and straightens the frizz instantly. At the same time, this shampoo keeps the styling straight and assures it lasts up to 24 hours. Bela Right Now Now it is my turn… I have to confess: I have oily scalp… I bought Kerastase Bain Divalent Oily Scalp a few weeks ago and I felt my root becoming lighter and less oily since then. The general feeling is very good because the shaft of my hair is a bit dry and when I finish washing up, even if I do not use a conditioner, my hair feels good. Although it is clear that it feels better with a conditioner or mask, but sometimes I do not have enough time and I have to eliminate one these of my hair routine.

So Kerastase says that has created this shampoo to address oily roots. Sometimes roots are oily but the shaft is not, so in this case (mine), this is the perfect shampoo.

Firstly, it helps to remove excess sebum, while cleansing, purifying, refreshing and re-oxygenating the scalp. Secondly, besides it is perfect for balancing scalp and hair and for eliminating excess sebum, it is also very effective for erasing dryness of the shaft. All of these are because its formula contains their Systeme Bi Active, that gives softness, lightness and shine to the hair fibre.

Seeing from my point of view, I can say that she looks happier when talks about her hair and I see a huge difference in the lightness of her hair.

The hair length is full, polished, silky and with a new sensation of power, that flat and fine hair never had. This shampoo gently cleanses dirty and grease whilst improving body, texture and volume.

Bela Right Now And again me! Klorane Dry Shampoo is my best friend at home and at the office. Sometimes one has “surprise-meetings” or dinners or simply one does not hear the ringing of the alarm clock!! Those are the perfect moments for any dry shampoo.

Many people think that it is not a real hair-washing product because it is a spray that spreads powder and does not need water. In fact, its formula acts exactly in the same way as a common shampoo that relies on water. Molecules included in its formula absorb the dirt of the hair and scalp and when the powder is removed by brushing, this gets rid of all impurities.

There are another brands, some cheaper and more expensive, but this one is very good and works perfectly well. Klorane was the first brand that launched the first dry shampoo in the market during the ‘70s.

It is possible choose the Klorane Dry Shampoo between Nettle or Oat Milk depending on your hair type: oily or normal.

Two anti-cellulite I like!

I have spent my early years of youth 🙂 living without worries and now I have some issues to resolve because of that behavior. Suddenly, I realise that I have to do more “homework” than if I had taken care of my skin before.

One day I woke up and between my sheets appeared a pair of legs that I did not recognize… “Whose legs are these?” Yes, on that day I had a vision: Stop it!

The problem was that I did not know how to eliminate it exactly so I decided to ask a pharmacist friend who was also very sporty. She recommended me 3 brands of anti-cellulite products. I bought the first, I bought the second, finally I bought the third and…. that was the one!

Today I want to explain that it is very important to try different products until you find the appropriate one for you. And also, why not test the latest launched product or a friend’s recommendation to compare and decide if yours is still the perfect product?

In this way, I found Elancyl, which matches perfectly with my skin. But I have to be honest: it worked not only because of the cream, but also because of my effort and consistency in applying creams, giving specific massages, doing exercise and eating very well during the weekdays (I have fun during the weekend). There is no miracle in this situation, only consistency.

The good thing about these particular products is that the effects remain one month after the last application and after the use of one package at minimum. So, if you have to stop of applying it for a week because, for example, you go on holiday, do not worry, your cellulite will be controlled.

So, my last 2 anti-cellulite cosmetics had been Cellu Slim Flat Stomach and Cellu Slim Night.
Most anti-cellulite brands do an estimation of the efficacy of results. This particular brand indicates that after 14 days of use, one can see results. But it is never like this in my case … I can appreciate the real changes in my skin around the end of the first month after using any cream: body or face. Of course, if the cream is good for my type of skin, my skin will feel smoother, brighter (or anything what that cream works) and much better. But in general I need at least one month to see if works or not.

Cellu Slim Flat Stomach is recommended for specific areas with stubborn cellulite,

like the stomach. I also have used it on the exterior part of my legs and if you have, for example,
visible cellulite on your arms or back of the neck, you can apply it to these rebellious areas as well.

Cellu Slim Night is perfect for those who prefer to take care of themselves at night. Although I am a morning person, I have been using this night product because these last months I was able to have time for myself then. It was my relaxing time of the day.

– Activating cell metabolism at night.

For these two products the scent is very agreeable and most importantly it absorbs quickly. You can apply them onto your skin and get dressed immediately.

And they have 3 strong advantages:

– Only have to be applied once a day
– 24h chronobiology (the actives are released at specific hours of the day)
– The effects on the skin last for a month.

My experience with Eau Thermale Avène

Over the past two or three years, I have been using this routine of scrub and mask. I have to say that, although I love it, I think it is time for a change. But before saying goodbye to these products because my skin has changed, I want to share with you my experience.

This french Brand, Eau Thermale Avène, bases its products on a source of spring water source that is located in the southeast of France. They take the water straight from its source to the production plant where the products are manufactured. So the risk of contamination is nearly 0 and its properties are mantained.

My skin is generally normal, not sensitive, so I am lucky to be able to use any product without putting any risk on my skin, so why not try these type of cosmetics designed for sensitive skin? Much better than other more agressive products for my skin.

First thing, I prefer cosmetics with a very light perfume and these are perfect. They only smell clean.

I used to have the Cleanance Mask-Scrub in the shower until now, which is part of the anti- oily skin range. Eliminates impurities, scrubs and helps to tighten pores. The brand recommends using it once or twice a week on the entire face but I don’t use it around my eyes and sometimes I exfoliate my skin 3 times… I feel like I need to clean my face deeply and gently to rid it of pollution and makeup.
This mask-scrub mattifies and calms the skin because of the properties of the Avène thermal spring water that is included in its formula.

I use this scrub just before applying the second product that I want to talk you about: Antirougeurs Calm Soothing Mask. Sometimes, with the extreme change of temperature, my skin turns a bit red so I decided to try this mask the first time I felt that and I’ve been using it since then. It refreshes and comforts my skin after, for example, a stressful day. Improves skin microcirculation, soothes and softens.

And the most important: you get its properties in only 5 or 10 minutes!
But I leave it on for between 20 or 30 minutes…

The next product I love is a wildcard: Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray.

160905_testing now_avene_spray Do you know all its properties? It is amazing… is naturally soothing, anti-irritating and is rich in ingredients particularly recommended for the most sensitive skin but also for all skin types.

Properties:

On its own website they say: “You will feel wrapped in soothing softness. All the gentle purity of Avène Thermal Spring Water provides you with long-lasting protection. Following a surgical procedure, facial redness, skin irritation, sunburn, diaper rash, following make-up removal, shaving, exercise or hair removal and during travel to cool oneself”.
Yes, and I add: after depilation and to fix the makeup when is finished.

I keep it on my handbag (50ml); I have one in the fridge (300ml) for refreshing myself; another next to my bed (300ml) because it helps me to sleep when is too hot, and on my desk (150ml) to awake me up when I am very tired and need to continue working. For me it is a must in my life.
So, as I said after these years it is time to switch the Avène Cleanance scrub and the Antirougeurs mask for new products, but for sure I will be on them again in the future.

Bio-Oil, not new but still with me

I met Bio-Oil more or less in 2013. Everybody around me talked about it. I was very intringued so I bought it for testing… till nowadays…

This oil is used for scars, stretchs marks, uneven tone, ageing and dehydrated skin. In my case I use it for my very dry skin in knees, elbows, heels, waist, chest and forearms. The ideal application is twice a day with a minimum of 3 moths, but afer years using it I put it on my skin when I need it: once a day or from time to time…. Depends on the area.

Bio-Oil formula conteins vitamin A and E and vegetable oil extracts of calendula, lavender, camomile and rosemary. It is very agreable and nourishes the skin with no sticky sentation thanks to its patent PurCecllin Oil™.
The company did an absorption study in 2011, with 100 participants, applying Bio-Oil in their forearm and the conclusion was that 72% of them assured the absortion was “very fast” or “fast”. So very good results for the test.

It is amazing the huge quantity of awards Bio-Oil has received: since 2002 has won 298!

I like Bio-Oil and I use it since then, but I have to make an advise: it contains colouring pinkish which can teint your clothes so try to put it on your skin without any fabric around. It happened to me with a lovely white t-shirt…

THANAKHA, MYANMAR MULTIFUNCTION COSMETIC

The national cosmetic in Myanmar is Thanakha and I have to admit that was new for me but…
It wa used for 2.000 years ago to protect the skin from the sun and refresh it everyday. It seems that the first mention of thanakha in literature was found in the texts of the monk and poet Shin Maharatthasara in the 15^th century.

But, what really is Thanakha?

The original burmese cosmetic is 100% organic. It is a cream made from bark, wood or roots of the thanakha tree, Murraya paniculata or orange jasmine tree, that grows in the central area of Myanmar. It has to be at least 35 years old to have all the right properties to made into Thanakha.

These pieces of bark, wood or roots have to be mixed with water and milled with the kyauk pyin, which is a round stone, until it becomes a yelowish paste. This paste dries easily when it is apply on the skin and it seems that it has many properties like:

Control oily skin and its disadvantages (antibacterial and anti fungal).

Thanakha is composed of two fundamental active ingredients: coumarin and marmesin, both mixed naturally give these properties to Thanakha.

It is important to add that it has a very pleasant and light natural fragrance that reminds me of jasmine flowers and stays for hours on your skin.

How do they apply Thanakha?

Burmese apply Thanakha on their cheeks, forehead, nose and arms.

The traditional way is doing original designs from the simplest action like putting it on and that’s it, to the most complicated like beautiful leaves going through spiral, circles, dots… The design says a lot about who is wearing it. I tried to create a beautiful leaf on my skin as I saw they did but the result was terrifying… so I only could wash my face…

The two most popular Thanakha are from Sagaing Region, Shwebo thanakha, and from Magway Region, Shinmadaung thanakha.

Another application of Thanakha

An old Ayurveda recipe mixes Thanakha and Kusuma oil to get a glue for permanent hair removal. Over time it seems that the hair is weakened from the root until its complete disappearance.

Thanakha is a very special cosmetic and one of the oldest in the world. Nowadays, it is still a must everyday for Burmese people because of its many and incredible properties. It is also an identity for Burmese.

I don’t use it frequently but, from time to time, I like it as a face mask and on some parts of my body. The result is very pleasant, the skin renew smooth and clean and the smell reminds me (I don’t know why) my childhood.
However, I do not recommend it if you have a sensitive skin.

Really, I think it is a gem to discover for the big pharmaceuticals. I only have found one company that has formulated a beauty product with this active ingredient: the Singaporean Company Bio Essence with its product line Tanaka White. I will try it next time!
